The small ads in the local paper are such fodder for a nitpicker like me... The same ones keep coming up: "chaise lounge" for "chaise longue", "dinning table" for "dining table", "stall" for "stool", "slimish" for "slimmish" , "swede" for "suede" ... and how many different ways can there be to spell "mahogany"?!>
There! Told you I'd find something else!>
Don't get me started on the emails that come through freecycle - I don't know how the mods can bear to let them go without editing and correcting the spelling and grammar.
ReplyDelete...like the "under cunter fridge"..."girls' bits"...the "recurrant" bush (obviously perennial!) and today's request for a pc chair...
ReplyDeleteOf course, what happens when I make a mistake?!
I go apoplectic when someone advertises a chest of draws.
ReplyDeleteDraws???
Exactly! "Draws" is a verb, "drawers" is the noun! (whether a chest of, or people who draw)
ReplyDelete... and another one: "there's" used when followed by a plural - even the newcasters do it now!
Oh don't get me started on the correct use of apostrophes.
ReplyDelete*goes off muttering....'I don't know what they teach in schools these days....*
